In an emergency a trolley has to be reliable, and its contents efficiently stored. This is crucial to save lives.
The correct medication needs to be found straight away, it has to be correctly stored and it must not be expired. That’s why regular, documented and recorded checks of the trolley, devices and drugs are essential. Each healthcare facility has its own protocols and procedures that govern this essential operation.
A help with periodic checks, or when resupplying stocks after an intervention, is given by the safety seal that locks the drawers.
An intact seal, in addition to avoiding keys and numerical codes (keys can be lost, a code forgotten, keeping the trolley locked during an emergency), certifies and shows that the content has been checked and correctly supplied and that the trolley is ready for use.
The unique numbering of the seal makes it possible to record and trace previous checks. The seal is disposable because it cannot be reused: it is made of sufficiently strong plastic, but it can be broken when necessary.
